2015 Fitness America™ Weekend Event Report
Feature report by Antonietta Jones
With 600+ athletes competing at the 2015 Fitness America™ Weekend one can only imagine the excitement and the electric atmosphere at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. With so many beautiful, fit tanned bodies getting around it was easy to forget that it was a Vegas winter!
With the huge weekend ahead the Australia Team were amped up and ready to strut their stuff and show the world what Aussie athletes are made of.
The Fitness America™ weekend kicked off with the Fitness Division. This division requires competitors to perform a high energy choreographed routine, which demonstrates athletic coordination and is judged on the level of difficulty, execution, creativity in both routine and outfit, and then there is also a swimwear round which encompasses body conditioning, shape, tone, symmetry and stage presence.
This was the first time in the history of Team Natural Bodz having athletes compete in this division, so we were very excited to say the least. Both Emma Keogh and Brandon Clift have a gymnastics background and both wanted to give this division a go mostly to have fun and make the most of their opportunity to compete at the Fitness America Weekend.
The incredible Brandon Clift performed a “Back Street Boys” show stopping routine which had both the judges and spectators bopping to the tune and at the end heard a roar of screams as he nailed his performance. Brandon was a real contender in this category just missing out on the Top 5 against other seasoned competitors and placing 6th. A worthy achievement with much encouragement from the crowd and judges, as this was history in the making, Australia’s first ever Male Fitness Competitor on the Vegas stage.
Next up we had the super talented 22 year old beauty technician Emma Keogh who brought energy and some “Austin”tacious “Power”s moves to her first time ever Fitness America Routine.
Emma had previously taken out the 2015 Model Australia Junior Division which qualified her to compete at the 2015 Fitness America™ Weekend. With ten years of competitive gymnastics behind her, Emma did not disappoint. In fact, Emma narrowly missed out by one point on a 5th place. Well done to both Emma and Brandon, who did the Australian team proud.
It was time for some some fitness and fashion with the Model America™ Championships. This category was broken up in to a Commercial Model Division, Sport Fitness Model Division and Muscle Model (Men Only) Division. We had several team members competing in the various Divisions.
The highly contended Commerical Model division had over 40 beautiful and amazing competitors including Shelley Lockhard, Zoe Hackett, Karin Jansma, Melissa Green, Kelly Vincent, Vanessa Pureta and Naomi Powell who all showed their talent with class and style.
Bringing some classic Glamour to the Commercial Model America™ stage was Soni Jay Pukallus who looked like she has just walked off a movie set with her stunning looks and Marilyn Monroe style gown. Soni took top honors, placing 4th in the Commercial Model America™ Division with team members Milla Boulden just missing out on 5th Place and Alexa Wood placing in the top 10.
