Rachel Jacobsohn of Sydney Australia features in Australian Natural Bodz Magazine Volume 5 issue 5 as a Star Profile Athlete.
I had no knowledge of the fitness modeling industry until I met my current trainer Simone Lewis, who has been very successful in the sport. I thought she looked amazing and since I wanted to take my training to the next level I thought fitness modeling would be a fantastic way to create a focus and showcase my hard work. A good friend of mine encouraged me to compete with her at the ANB Asia Pacific Championships with her last year, in which we both prepped for and placed together in. It was a hard journey but well and truly one of the most fulfilling experiences I have ever had! I have definitely fallen in love with the sport and appreciate the support and motivation the fitness community provides.
After watching a few videos from previous competitions under the ANB federation I decided that’s what I really fit into. Ever since my first competition in October 2011 and placing first under the ANB national’s, I have never looked back and it has been an awesome experience and journey.

What type of diet do you follow leading into a Fitness Modeling event?
I follow a high protein, low fat and moderate carb diet coming into a fitness modeling event. Most of my protein comes from lean protein sources such as chicken breasts, my fats come from nuts and coconut oil and carbs from oats and sweet potato. The diet leading up to a competition or photoshoot definitely pushed me to my limits at first, however as you see the results and the event becomes closer it motivates you to be as strict as you can be to look the best on the day!
How many days a week do you train and what do you feel is more important when it comes to achieving a fitness model body, weight training or cardio?
I train every day starting about 6 weeks out of a fitness modeling event. As the event draws closer and I’m looking to lose that last little bit I increase my cardio intervals to twice a day and maintain doing weights 5-6 times per week. Cardio and weights are equally as important to make you look your best and besides, I love doing them both! Competition or not, I maintain a good balance of both
all year round.
How has fitness changed your life?
After being a ballet dancer for 15 years, I always enjoyed being fit and leading an active lifestyle. When I stopped dancing due to full time study I joined the gym and started training with a combination of weights and cardio to bring my fitness to a higher level. After a few years I discovered competing and became a lot more motivated to reach my training goals, as I am someone who needs a focus to work towards! I have also gained a greater knowledge in terms of nutrition and have been able to apply this daily, leading to a much healthier lifestyle than what I was living.
