Who or what inspired you to get involved in the health and fitness industry?
I have always been active from a young age, although I never took fitness seriously until I moved to the Gold Coast. What I noticed here on the coast was that almost everyone wants to live a healthy active lifestyle and be apart of the fitness community. I began just by running everyday along the beach and now, I am completely addicted and manage a 24/7 gym on the north side.
What type of diet do you follow year round and then coming into an event?
Nutrition has always been something I have tried to get right many times. Trial and error have brought me to eating for my blood type that had been introduced to me by my current coach. Basically, its eating fresh colorful food and knowing what times to eat to get the best results possible. Coming into an event, I believe the best results show by being consistent, limiting certain foods, but still enjoying the process of preparation and giving your body the fuel it needs before stepping on stage.
How many days a week do you train and do you prefer weight training over cardio, what works best for you?
Every week is different for me, I usually listen to my body and allow myself to have a rest day when needed. My
training consists of HIIT training 3-4 times a week, weight training 5 times a week and I usually add core and light cardio every other day. In particular my body responds
well to high intensity training and weight training to help sculpt my entire body.
You competed for the first time at the 2015 Musclemania Australia event where you took 1st place in the Novice Bikini Class. How did it feel to step on stage and take out a number one spot?
The experience was very surreal. I had no expectations, as it was my first competition, however, being on stage was more exciting than I had imagined. The most daunting part is waiting to take your first steps on stage, although once your there and people are cheering, its very hard not to enjoy the experience. Taking out 1st place in Novice Bikini was the highlight of my night and having such wonderful feedback has encouraged me to participate again in 2016.
How important is it to maintain a balance in life between work and play, what’s your success mantra?
Balance is very important to me, as it allows me to enjoy life. Since I work at a gym, I find it is important to step outside my comfort zone and do something different.
Getting outdoors, going for a swim really breaks up my routine, which then allows me to get back into the gym and push hard again. Weekends consist of rest, spending time with my partner, friends and family.
